Q.1: What are the membership requirements?
All Muslim adult Canadian Citizens, Permanent Resident Card, Super Visa, Student Visa and those legally staying in Canada and their family members are eligible to register as a member of ABSAA (Al-Widaa Burial Support Association of Alberta).
Q.2: What is the Membership fee structure?

ABSAA fee structure is based on once and lifetime membership fee (non-refundable) as follows:

Q.3: Is there any payment I have to make once I become a registered member of ABSAA?
Yes, you have to make only following three payments:
1. If any registered member of ABSAA passes away then only you, as a Principal Member, will be required to proportionately share the Burial expenses incurred for him/her to reimburse the stabilized balance.
2. Total Burial cost will then be calculated (minimum $5) and distributed among all active ABSAA Members as their reimbursement share (Burial payment). All Principal Members will be notified about the amount of their share and after five working days the same amount will be deducted from their principal bank account as per Pre-Authorized Payment Plan agreement signed by them
3. In the event of any Mail, Email, Phone number and Bank Account transactions are returned due to changes made in them by the member without notifying us, ABSAA will automatically withdraw $25 From their account as penalty.

Q.4: What documents are needed to register as a member?
You are required to submit the following documents:
1) Membership Application Form
2) Canadian status Photo ID (We do not accept Driver’s License, Photo Card and Health Card as a proof of Canadian status ID.)
3) A Cheque of Membership Fee or Proof of E-transfer
4) A void cheque or print out of your bank account

Q.5: If I move to any other city of Alberta Province will I still be entitled for the benefit of ABSAA services?
Yes, you will continue receiving benefit of ABSAA services as long as you are within Alberta Province area.
Q.6: Will I be eligible for full ABSAA services immediately after my registration a member?
As per established policy of ABSAA the membership activation period is 3 months from the date the application form is received. After three months the membership will automatically be activated for full ABSAA services.
Q.7: After registration and during my wait period for membership activation, will you deduct my share of reimbursement in the event of demise of any ABSAA member?
No share of reimbursement will be deducted during the wait period. When activation takes place as a registered member, only Principal Member will be required to pay share of reimbursement.
Q.8: If any registered member passes away before the completion of four months activation period what services ABSAA can provide?
Unfortunately, ABSAA cannot provide any Burial financial support services before activation takes place because he is not yet a member.
Q.9: Can principal applicant add the name of parents in his/her application form?
If both parents are alive, and if they meet membership eligibility requirement, they have to submit a separate application form. However, a single parent can be added in their son/daughter principal applicant form.
Q.10: In the event of ABSAA member’s death, what procedure should be followed?
Death at Home or in the Hospital, First prepare the deceased documents, and then call ABSAA for burial arrangements.

Q.11: If a member of ABSAA becomes defaulter by not paying his share of reimbursement cost how the matter is handled by ABSAA?
ABSAA will revoke his/her membership.
Q.12: If a registered ABSAA member passes away out of Canada will ABSAA still provide Burial financial services?
No. Our services are available only in the Province of Alberta.
Q.13: I am a registered Principal Member of ABSAA. One of my children who was also registered as a child member of ABSAA at the time of my registration got married–what next, I have to do?
You have to fill up a separate Membership Application Form for him/her which can be downloaded from our website www.ABSAA.ca and send to us with $50for each member as Membership Fee to register as Principal Applicant. Please make sure that you or your child (if has a separate bank account) fill up and sign the “Pre-Authorization Payment Plan Agreement” and attach a VOID cheque.
Q.14: If a registered member passes away in any city of Alberta other than city of his/her residence, will ABSAA transport the body to his/her city of residence for Burial services?
No, ABSAA will not be responsible for transportation of body. The Masjid will be responsible for all burial needs.
Q.15: If the applicant and his/her family living in remote area out of GEA how ABSAA will make Burial arrangement and payment there if any member passes away.
The family must look for a Masjid with Burial arrangement and Cemetery where Muslim Section is available and notify us. For the payment of Burial cost up to $7,000 minus applicable overhead expenses, if the Masjid and cemetery accept the payment by Credit Card, Email Transfer and Cheque, ABSAA will make the applicable payment directly to them upon the receipt of Invoices from them in the name of “Al-Widaa Burial Support Association of Alberta”.
In case of payment made by the Member, ensure that the invoice/s are issued in the name of “Al-Widaa Burial Support Association of Alberta” and then submit the invoice to ABSAA.

Q.16: If the new applicant Principal Member does not include the name/s of his/her spouse and children at the first stage when submitting the Membership Form for the reasons known to him/her can he/she add their name/s later on.
Yes, they can include them by paying membership fee of $50 + $ 50 admin fee each and by filling up the “Amendment Form” available on ABSAA website www.ABSAA.ca, but they will also be subject to 3 months activation period from the date their name/s included in the dependent list of principal applicant.
Q 17: What is the best way to submit Membership documents?
There are two options you may submit the documents.

Q 18: Can a registered Principal Member of ABSAA cancel his/her membership?
Yes, only he/she can cancel his/her membership when they want to, without any obligation. They will be required to complete the “Amendment Form” which is available on the ABSAA website www.ABSAA.ca. Furthermore, if the Principal member terminates their membership, then the memberships attached to him/her will also be terminated. There is no refund of any money upon termination of membership.
Q 19: If a Magnetic Membership Card lost by any member can it be replaced.
Yes, Magnetic Membership Card can be reissued with the cost of $30.00.
Q 20: Can the Membership be transferred to any other person?
No, the Membership is not transferable at all to any other person.
Q 21: After submitting Membership Application when we should expect Membership confirmation.
If all required documents are attached and correct, a formal Acknowledgement letter will be sent within 4 – 6 weeks. However, they will be subject to 4 months activation period from the date their application is received.
Q 22: Do the Al-Widaa Burial Support Association of Alberta claim death benefit from the government.
No, we do not claim any death benefit from the government. If the deceased is under government assistance, then the mosque performing the burial will collect the burial cost from the government. In this case, there is no money to be paid from ABSAA to neither the family of the deceased or the masjid.
Q 23. If a member of ABSAA declared defaulter and his/her membership cancelled, can the same be reinstated after the dues are settled?
No, for six months neither his/her membership will be reinstated, nor they can apply for new membership from the date they were declared defaulter. Also, the memberships attached/sponsored by him/her will also be terminated.
